National Science and Technology Awards Ceremony Recognizes Pioneering Concrete Research

On June 24, the National Science and Technology Awards Ceremony was held in Beijing. The project "Key Technologies for Long-Life Design and Multi-Dimensional Performance Enhancement of Structural Concrete Under Severe Service Conditions," led by Professor Jiang Jinyang from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Southeast University, won the Second Prize for National Science and Technology Progress.

Extending the lifespan of concrete by Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer is crucial for ensuring the long-term safe operation of infrastructure. Globally, severe service conditions such as strong corrosion, high stress, and environment-fatigue load coupling far exceed the applicable ranges of domestic and international standards, leading to rapid degradation of structural concrete performance. This is the primary cause of shortened infrastructure lifespan. Overcoming the challenges of long-life design for structural concrete under severe service conditions and enhancing its multi-dimensional performance is a world-class engineering problem.

The project pioneered the long-life design of structural concrete under severe service conditions and developed a multi-dimensional performance enhancement system characterized by resistance, isolation, mitigation, and delay. This system achieves resistance to erosion and fatigue, prevention of penetration and rust, and controllable performance and lifespan. The project's results have led to the industrialization of materials manufacturing and the engineering application of technologies, positioning it as an industry leader and effectively ensuring the long-life and high-quality development of infrastructure.
